All Fruits Are Healthy But These ‘Super Fruits’ Pack More Nutrients – Here’s Why They Are Worth Adding to Your Diet
It doesn’t take a genius to know that fruits are one of the healthiest foods out there because they pack vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. However, some are hailed as superfoods due to the additional compounds that are linked to many health benefits.
Strawberries
These tasty and juicy red berries are versatile – you can practically add them to your dessert or drink. Strawberries are considered superfoods because they are high in antioxidants like phenolic acids, anthocyanins, flavonoids, and vitamin C.
Antioxidants fight free radicals, which are unstable atoms caused by stress, pollution, and other body processes. A study showed that women who consumed 9 ounces of frozen strawberries per day saw an increase in their antioxidants.
Apples
Have you ever heard of the adage ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away’? There’s some truth to that because this fruit is also touted as a superfood.
Apples are linked to an array of health benefits, including reducing the risk of developing cancers and heart disease – this is associated with the fruit’s flavonoid antioxidant content.
Grapes
Grapes may be tiny but don’t underestimate this nutritious fruit. All around the globe, there are different kinds and variants of this berry – some packs more antioxidants than the others.
A study has found that among 30 grape varieties, Seedless Red and Green, Summer Royal Black, Black Pearl, and Pearl Green have the most antioxidants like epicatechin, caffeic acid, rutin, gallic acid, catechin gallate, and protocatechuic acid.
Tomatoes
Some people classify tomatoes as vegetables, but they are fruits. They are best known for taking the flavors of dishes to new heights, but more than this, they offer lycopene, which is good for the heart.
Just a reminder: the peels have higher antioxidant contents than the pulp. As such, it may be best to eat tomatoes as is.
Pomegranates
Pomegranates are one of the most flavorful superfoods that nature has given us. This fruit is considered one of the strongest antioxidants because of its anthocyanins, ellagitannins, and organic acids contents.
Apart from reducing oxidative stress, pomegranates were found to be effective in reducing low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, inflammation, blood pressure, inflammation, muscle damage, and triglyceride levels.
Watermelons
Watermelons are a good, flavorful thirst quencher. On top of this, you are actually getting vitamins C and A, potassium, and folate.
It is also the best source of l-citrulline, the amino acid used in the synthesis of nitric oxide. The compound is vital in different bodily functions, including blood vessel dilation.
Avocados
Avocados are known to be a rich source of fat – but don’t worry, it won’t make you plump. In fact, this wonder fruit is linked to weight loss.
This creamy fruit is rich in fats, folate, potassium, fiber, and folate.
