Trying to Boost Your Mind, Memory, and Cognition? Scientists Say These 5 Foods Can Reduce Your Cognitive Age by 7.5 Years!
Let’s face it- we don’t give nature half the credit it deserves. We need to accept that right now.
We already know of natural pills and tablets that can aid in weight-loss, diabetes, heart conditions, and many other terminal illnesses. These pills have no side effects whatsoever (unless you have allergies), and can be found at your nearest grocery store!
If that wasn’t enough in terms of benefits, researchers have found significant evidence of these unmatched food items to be useful in boosting cognition, and memory. In fact, these foods are a big part of the MIND diet, which can reportedly set your cognitive age back by 7-and-a-half years! Isn’t that amazing?
Without further ado, let’s get into these magical foods-
1. Berries
Besides being heavenly scrumptious, berries are extremely beneficial for your health. In addition to protecting your cells, they are heavily loaded with antioxidants such as ellagic acid, resveratrol, and anthocyanin. Research proves that the intake of berries helps to improve signaling in the brain because of these antioxidants and inflammatory properties. Doctors recommend eating one-and-a-half cups of berries twice a week, at least.
2. Whole grains
Whole grains consist of all sorts of nutrients that include fiber, protein, antioxidants, B vitamins, and trace minerals. Dr. Bredesen, a neurologist with the upcoming book, The End of Alzheimer’s Program, has suggested taking as little carbohydrates as possible; such as pasta and white rice. He states that the risk of getting Alzheimer’s increases as simple carbohydrates are associated with metabolic syndrome. As it comes in a lot of different forms, it is suggested to aim for having at least 3 servings a day.
3. Nuts
Nuts are, in general, a good source of fat, protein, and fiber. Mostly, the fat in the nut is monounsaturated fat, polyunsaturated fat, Omega 3, as well as Omega 6. As they are high in polyphenols and have appeared to be a great help with preventing a person from developing dementia. Doctors recommend having a small handful of nuts 5 days a week.
4. Olive oil
Just like nuts, olive oil appears to contain monounsaturated fat; except, it is rich in it! As Dr. Bredesen says, a low carbohydrate diet that contains all the good fats, supports brain function, as ketosis is promoted. Olive oil also contains a lot of antioxidants, and has anti-inflammatory properties! Nutritionists suggest replacing other oils and butter with olive oil for regular cooking purposes.
5. Poultry
Meat and poultry are great sources of protein! Besides that, they also provide other important nutrients that your body needs such as zinc, iron, iodine, and other vitamins. Doctors say that you should eat poultry twice a week or more, as a part of a balanced diet.
